R. STAHL, world class Ex solution provider, presents new 8530 and 8550 Ex d e explosion protected components for Ex e switching and power distribution boards. Plastic explosion protected components in the Ex d degree of protection, surrounded securely with a cost-effective Ex e enclosure, offer wide-ranging benefits with regard to weight and production. The highlight of both the new 8530 and 8550 series is the design. The components are manufactured from thermoplastic. Thanks to the cooling fins on the outside of the enclosure, the operating current – previously 40A – is increased to 63A for the 8530 series, and even to 125A for the 8550 series. Residual current circuit breakers, miniature circuit breakers, FI/LS (GFEP) combinations as well as contactors, overload relays and molded case circuit breakers from a wide variety of manufacturers are possible.
In the 8530 series, component sizes with two, three and four main contact poles are currently available. They can accommodate modular DIN rail inserts up to 4.5 subunits. For accessories such as auxiliary and signal contacts, six or eight auxiliary terminals are available. The 8550 series has three main contact poles and ten auxiliary contact terminals are possible. The available variants include molded case circuit breakers, contactors and overload relays. The first two components in particular complement the portfolio perfectly as feeder switches or for group switching of outgoing circuits in switchgears.
Furthermore, the combination of all three 8550 components is available with a 50 HP motor starter especially for the North American market. Here, the molded case circuit breaker mainly provides the short current protection, the contactor activates the motor and the overload relay monitors and protects against overloads. As an alternative to the circuit breaker, a circuit breaker with only magnetic tripping is also available. For both product ranges, certificates are available for the NEC area, and for IEC and ATEX. Country-specific approvals, such as UKCA and CCC, are in preparation. Common to all certificates is certified suitability for the Ex zones 1 and 2.
