The new version 7 of R. STAHL's successful Remote HMI firmware comes with an expanded range of functions for its industrial Thin Client solution, including a particularly practice-oriented feature: integrated support for IP cameras. With this feature, surveillance cameras can be integrated directly into the user interface and be used as a kind of sensor for process monitoring.
In many areas of the process industry, such as chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries, cameras are increasingly used as supplementary sensors. Typical applications include leakage monitoring, monitoring of pumps and valves, or the visual control of foam generation and filling levels in containers. For these purposes, dome cameras with their pan, tilt and zoom functions are particularly useful. Their great advantage is that they can automatically zoom in on different parts of a facility, giving the operators a quick overview.
The new IP camera integration of the V7 Remote HMI is based on the ONIVF standard (Open Network Video Interface Forum). With this standard, up to 99% of all common network cameras from different makers can be integrated without the need for additional software. Just a few mouse clicks and the camera is recognised by the system and placed on the display as a floating window. This window can be freely moved – ideal for cases when the user wants to keep an eye on other displays, too.
The IP camera support is included in the Remote HMI Pro licence and can be configured both directly at the device and centrally via the Remote Device Manager. Thanks to its standardised interface and the intuitive user interface, integration is particularly easy – in line with R. STAHL's motto: SECURE – SIMPLE – RELIABLE
This new feature is R. STAHL's answer to the increasing demand for real-time visual process monitoring. Especially in hazardous areas (Zone 1/2), the combination of robust HMI systems and intelligent camera connection offers clear added value - for greater safety, transparency and efficiency in day-to-day plant operation.
