Companies in modern production and administration environments are often using different systems in parallel – such as systems for order management, production control and process monitoring. There is a growing need for information on-site, and one screen is often no longer enough. Which solution is suitable depends on whether there are different, separate IP networks and whether these can be connected to one terminal at different ports. This in turn is based on a company's individual network security concept. Which is why R. STAHL has developed two methods:
If a company's IT guidelines permit the connection of two networks within one device, the new multi-screen solution from R. STAHL provides the optimum support. At its core is a direct monitor for hazardous areas Zone 1, 2, 21 and 22, which is connected to a Thin Client via USB. With this solution, different applications can be displayed on separate screens, a method familiar from office PCs with two screens.
If the company's IT guidelines do not permit the connection of two networks in one device, we offer the shared keyboard solution. This involves two Thin Clients running each application separately from the other without connecting the networks. Both Thin Clients share a keyboard and a mouse. With this method, the user can change between the systems whilst the focus automatically stays on the active application – similar to common desktop systems. This technology is independent of automation or administration systems and can be universally applied. Horst Friedrich, Director Product Marketing at R. STAHL HMI, explains: "Multi-screen and keyboard sharing enables companies to control their processes more efficiently whilst meeting all pertinent IT guidelines. This solution has been operated successfully for several months now in real-life applications."
The new technology reduces the potential for errors, improves process control and increases efficiency. Complex processes can be run in parallel and are documented reliably without the need for additional hardware or sophisticated network configurations.
