Ethernet-APL is based on global, open standards from the IEEE and the IEC. Ethernet is used via a 2-wire conductor with transfer rates of 10 MBit/s that is suitable for distances of up to 1000 m – standardised as 10BASE-T1L. For the specific requirements of the process industry, Ethernet-APL team also features additions, such as the intrinsically safe connection and supply of field devices via Zone 1 and Zone 2 field switches.
Ethernet-APL field switches are available for installation in Zones 1 and 2 and are directly operated by an industrial 4-wire 100 MBps Ethernet backbone via PROFINET, EtherNet/IP or HART-IP, for example. The optional fibre optic interfaces even make distances of over several kilometres possible in the field.
- Linking, distributing and managing data flows in the Ethernet network
- Supplying the connected field devices with intrinsically safe auxiliary power
- Robust design for direct on-site installation in Zone 1 or 2
- Integrated diagnostics functions: Error diagnostics, status messages, operating information
- Bridging distances of several kilometres (optional, fibre optics for Zone 2 versions)
- Migrating existing systems with PROFIBUS PA devices thanks to integrated PA proxy
